PennTerra Engineering, Inc. (PTE) is proud to welcome Ronald “Rocky” Borger, Jr. to the team as a Senior Project Manager!

“Rocky brings broad and solid experience, stressing quality and thoroughness on his projects,” notes John Sepp, P.E., President of PTE. “With our growing workload, we want to continue to provide the best customer service possible for our clients, who have depended on us as professional partners for decades. With Rocky’s arrival, we feel confident that our standards will continue to be met as our firm looks to the future.”

After attending Lafayette College, Borger obtained over thirty years of experience working with clients, land development plans, designs, surveys, and teams.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone more so that we can build a strong team to work on successful projects,” Borger says. “Everyone has been super helpful. I really like the atmosphere and even come home whistling!”

Already, Borger’s project portfolio is reflective of the diverse projects that PTE handles for its clientele of private developers: residential subdivisions of varying sizes, large-scale student housing plans, commercial plans for retail entities, and community recreation plans.

“I really enjoy figuring things out and being able to look at a project from a different viewpoint or angle to come up with alternative designs,” explains Borger, “I like to always have a ‘Plan B.’”

Growing up in Kresgeville, Pennsylvania, Borger was curious about engineering from an early age.

“Since I was a little kid, I was always interested in how things were put together,” he remembers. “I wanted to be an architect first actually. I started off in survey and was out in the field for quite a few years until one of the older engineers in the office got me into doing more of the design engineering work.”

From that point, Borger’s career took off.  Throughout his career, he has worked at three firms in eastern Pennsylvania and been a project manager with PPL (Pennsylvania Power & Light), Sweetland Engineering, and HRG Engineering.

One of his most memorable projects incorporated his love for the outdoors.

“We were engineering and permitting a new ski run at Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton (Pennsylvania),” recalls Borger.  “I got to be one of the first guys down it.  It was like a dream. I wanted to call it ‘Rocky’s Run,’ but the ownership went with ‘Free Fall’ instead.”

When the Borger family moved to Centre County, they settled in the Stormstown area and began enjoying the work-life balance that the area’s plentiful outdoor recreation options offer.

“This area reminds my wife (Deborah) and I of how the Pocono area was when we were kids – a lot of open space and farms,” Borger describes. “It’s beautiful.”

Borger is a member of the Nittany Mountain Bike Association and frequents Rothrock State Forest’s trails. An avid skier since the age of 7, he serves on the ski patrol at Tussey Mountain.

His love of skiing is now shared with his adult boys, Nathan and Ryan. Recently, they took a trip to Colorado.

When his free time doesn’t involve skis or bikes, Borger can be found perfecting another recipe.

“Tacos, pork chops for camping, Thanksgiving on the pellet grill,” lists Borger. “I’m actually a pretty good cook!”

Perhaps Borger will enter PTE’s “Pi Day” contest in March…
