State College, PA – This summer, PennTerra Engineering, Inc. expanded their team of employee-owners to include Eric Post, a new Designer in the Design Team.

“Eric’s strong background in CAD and previous professional experience will both be tremendous assets to our team and clients,” stated John Sepp, P.E., President of PennTerra. “We are excited that Eric has joined our team and look forward to working with him for many years to come!”

Post is eager to work in the community that he now calls home.

“I wanted to work at a place where I could make a difference in my local community,” Post explained, while sitting in PennTerra’s conference room, which is adorned with photos of projects that he and other team members drive past daily.

Growing up in Morgantown, West Virginia, Post always enjoyed designing and building things.

“I remember being very intrigued when construction began in my neighborhood on some new houses,” Post said.

This curiosity and natural aptitude led him to Happy Valley, where he attended Pennsylvania State University. Post selected his major, Landscape Architecture, based on a mixture of his love of the outdoors and design. His classes taught him the importance of approaching a design from the end-users’ experience in the completed space.

In 2019, Post graduated from Penn State and quickly went to work designing projects remotely for an engineering firm in the Pittsburgh area.

“Being involved in projects in different cities and interacting with those communities – that was what I enjoyed the most,” Post recalled.

At PennTerra, he is already working on projects that are located in the community and will be used by the local community members.

“After the orientation and training period, I’ve been working on an athletic project, a healthcare project, and doing some concept sketches for a commercial project,” noted Post. “All are located in the State College area.”

To field his questions, Post can rely on his project team members or ask any of his new colleagues.

“It’s friendly, open, and very welcoming,” Post said of PennTerra’s office culture. “People are willing to help.”

In a team of over 30 people, Post is the third Landscape Architecture graduate.

“Hiring people with a variety of backgrounds, education, and experience gives PennTerra a creative edge,” acknowledged Jon Houser, RLA, ASLA, Design, IT & CAD Manager at PennTerra.

Mark Torretti, a Senior Project Manager at PennTerra with a Landscape Architecture degree, agreed.

“Our firm blends the sound principles of civil engineering with the aesthetics of landscape architecture,” Torretti explained. “The result of this approach is a design that is value-engineered for affordable constructability by our clients, as well as aesthetically pleasing spaces for the eventual residents, customers, employees, and community members.”

Looking ahead, Post has clear goals.

“I want to obtain my professional license,” he stated. “And, after getting more integrated into PennTerra, I want to see projects around town that I helped to design.”

Now a part of a team of land development experts, Post could be seeing his designs break ground and be built very soon!

Until then, he is settling into a new work rhythm and enjoying life as a State College resident. At home, Post enjoys playing board games; on the weekends, he likes to go on hikes and go camping.
